Welcome to Diarrhoea!
Diarrhoea or Diarrhea is an intestinal disorder that is described as an abnormal fluidity and frequency of fecal evacuations, usually the result of increased motility in the colon. It is also defined as the passing of increased amounts of watery stools, usually more than 300g in a 24-hour time period. Nevertheless, it is the consistency of the stools that is significant rather than the number of times it occurred in a day. Diarrhoea happens when insufficient fluid is absorbed by the colon. This disease is most commonly caused by bacterial toxins, viral infections and even food poisoning. Diarrhoea can also be caused by viruses or bacteria that that have been transmitted from one person to another. This condition can happen as a symptom of infection, food intolerance, allergy, foodborne diseases, lactose intolerance, and extreme excesses of Vitamin C and/or magnesium. This illness can either be acute (short term) or chronic (long term) - lasting more than two to three weeks. The most appropriate treatment for this kind of illness is to keep hydrated with properly balanced electrolytes.
